Lilac Jobs is an online marketplace, primarily aimed at what we term “Seniors” – that is older
individuals looking to continue to work. A recent report by the Institute of Fiscal Studies – see link
here : https://ifs.org.uk/articles/new-data-show-signs-over-50s-returning-workforce suggests
there is a move by 50 to 64 year olds returning to the workplace.
The return to work by Seniors is not necessarily viewed as a long-term career move, but rather a
method of boosting income on a shorter term basis.
A potential employer may have a requirement to fill a (limited time) role within their business – this
may be a fixed period of say several months or a variable, unspecified period.
So, the premise of Lilac Jobs is simple – we put the interested parties together, initially online.
Either the candidates will view featured jobs and / or the employer will search for suitable Senior
candidates. After this initial introduction via Lilac Jobs the interested parties will then commence
direct negotiations with each other to determine the mutual suitability and terms of the placement.

We comply with the International Standard Classification of Occupations (ISCO) current version
ISCO-08 as specified by the International Labour Organisation ILOSTAT

In short, all jobs and levels are covered – the Lilac Jobs mantra is “Focus on ability not age”

There is no age limit – as stated on this site we stress we have a “Focus on ability not age”. If you
have the ability to fulfil the requirements of an advertised job, and the employer believes you can
carry out the functions of that role, then you’re not too old. Easy.

This is a discussion between you and your potential employer – it is not the function of Lilac Jobs
to discuss salaries, wages or any other compensation criteria.

Firstly, we focus on what we term “Seniors” – people who may have retired, or about to retire –
either voluntarily or via redundancy. At this point in your life you may be content to leave
employment and your career – in which case we wish you a comfortable retirement. However
“retirement” does not diminish your skills or experience levels – skills and experience that still
have much to offer. You may not be looking to a long term career development plan but you can
certainly use the employment knowledge you have today and continue to earn ongoing income.
Taking this last point further, potential employers may have requirements for limited or short-term
job opportunities. This could be a seasonal requirement, time-dependent contracts or occasions
where it is not feasible to offer full-time long term employment. This may be addressed via the use
of contractual or freelance staff of course, but many employers view this option to be unreliable in
terms of the commitment of the worker, uncertain skill levels and high upfront costs.
These somewhat negative points can be addressed by employing Seniors via Lilac Jobs on
limited variable employment periods.

We can offer a number of advantages to hiring Seniors:
• Reliability – Seniors are more likely to show up and on time for work.
• Training – less likely to need initial or ongoing job training – they already have years of
experience.
• Career Development – less likely to be a criteria for potential workers – so probably little need to
develop a career development programme.
• Time Scales – as an employer your employment contract may be for a limited time period;
Senior candidates are more liable to accept that any employment may be subject to extension
or contraction.
• Work experience – a secondary advantage is that a Senior may be able to mentor younger staff
if and when required.

As an online business Lilac Jobs operates throughout the UK – we classify our search criteria to
geographically recognised regions, but of course Candidates and Employers are free to to operate
in any or multiple regions.
At this time Lilac Jobs is only operating within the UK in English but we have had enquiries about
setting up operations in Canada and in Belgium.
